Tooth Supported Over Denture Complete Denture

Complete denture can be a very tricky procedure for many dentists when there are teeth remaining in the oral cavity. So, planning for improving the treatment prognosis and to provide greater comfort to the patient must be considered. This case report describes the advantages and use of remaining teeth to aid in the stability, support and retention of the complete denture.

A 65-year-old male patient with no systemic problems looked for dental treatment complaining about his dental aesthetics and functional problems. His major desire was to improve his masticatory function by extraction of all remaining teeth and complete denture fabrication.

The intraoral examination revealed an edentulous maxilla and partially dentulous mandible. The teeth present in the mandible were canines in both the quadrants. So a maxillay complete denture and tooth supported mandibular denture was planned for the patient.

Radiographic evaluation was done for the remaining teeth to evaluate the bone support. Endondontic treatment was carried out for both the teeth. Teeth were reduced and a post space was created. Posts with copings were fabricated by using resin material. Copings were fabricated and cemented. Primary impression was made of the maxillary arch using impression compound and alginate for the mandible. Gypsum models were obtained and special trays were fabricated Final impression was made using special trays. Jaw relation was taken and trial with triple layered acrylic teeth. Denture was fabricated and delivered to the patient. Patient was absolutely comfortable and extremely happy with the denture.
